El argentino Santiago Solari, el director técnico del Real Madrid que se juega buena parte de la temporada en esta semana, es el integrante de una de las familias más futboleras del mundo, partiendo desde su padre, Eduardo, y su tío, Jorge, ambos ex jugadores y entrenadores, así como sus hermanos Esteban (ex jugador, ahora DT) y David (aún juega), y sus primos-sobrinos Augusto (en Racing Club), y Fernando y Federico Redondo, también futbolistas e hijos del ex crack de Argentinos Juniors y Real Madrid, Fernando Redondo, casado con su prima Natalia Solari.
Los Solari suelen estar diseminados por todo el mundo y por esta razón, se
suelen encontrar una vez al año para disfrutar todos juntos. “Somos una
familia muy unida que disfruta mucho del fútbol pero que cuando jugamos
entre nosotros a cualquier cosa, todos queremos ganar”, describe David,
quien juega, a sus 32 años, en el Othelos Athienou de Grecia como mediapunta o extremo.
Además de Esteban y David, Santiago Solari tiene otros dos hermanos,
Martín (contador público) y la actriz, modelo y conductora televisiva Liz,
nacida en Barranquilla el 18/6/1983 cuando su padre, Eduardo, dirigía al
Junior de esta ciudad colombiana. “Mis hermanos me mandaban al arco y
me mataban a pelotazos. Una vez me quebraron una muñeca así”, recuerda
Liz, quien cuenta que Santiago y Esteban son muy malos perdedores: “Mi
papá tuvo un club que se llamaba Almácigos, en el campo, y allí los picados sólo terminaban cuando ellos iban ganando. Eran interminables.”
“Mi familia es extraña-admitió Santiago Solari en una entrevista con la
revista ‘El Gráfico’-. Mi viejo es de Rosario Central, mi vieja, de Newells,
y mis hermanos, de Estudiantes de La Plata y a mí también, me gusta Estudiantes”. Liz se declara hincha de River Plate desde los tiempos que seguía a su hermano actual DT del Real Madrid entre 1996 y 2000, yendo seguido al estadio Monumental, aunque entre 2005 y 2007 concurrió también al estadio de Independiente para ver a su hermano David, quien estuvo jugando a préstamo allí, sin mucha continuidad.
Una de las casualidades de los Solari es que siendo de Rosario, muchos de
ellos pasaron por Estudiantes de La Plata. Jorge jugó allí, Eduardo fue DT,
Santiago realizó la pretemporada de 1994 con el plantel, Augusto fue cedido dos veces desde River, y Esteban vistió esa camiseta en la temporada 2000/2001.
Todo comenzó con los hermanos Jorge Raúl y Eduardo Miguel en los años
’60. Jorge, el mayor de los dos (11/11/1941), volante derecho, comenzó su carrera futbolística en Newell’s Old Boys en 1960, siguió en Vélez Sársfield en 1962 para pasar a River Plate en 1964 y hasta 1970, sus años dorados, cuando pese a no conseguir torneos locales, llegó a la final de la Copa Libertadores de 1966 ante Peñarol y ese mismo año disputó como titular de la selección argentina el Mundial de Inglaterra 1966. En 1970 pasó a Estudiantes de La Plata, donde integró el equipo que se consagró campeón de América por tercera vez consecutiva.
Tras un paso por el Torreón mexicano, se volcó a la dirección técnica desde 1974. Comenzó en Rosario Central, y pasó por equipos mexicanos y colombianos, Vélez, Newell’s, fue campeón argentino con Independiente en 1988/89, y en 1990 recaló en el Tenerife, que contrató desde Argentinos Juniors a Fernando Redondo, su yerno (casado con su hija Natalia). En 1994 dirigió a la selección de Arabia Saudita en el Mundial de los Estados Unidos 1994 y logró clasificarla para los octavos de final y tras esa experiencia siguió viajando por todo el mundo para dirigir al Huachipato (Chile), Barcelona (Ecuador) y Yokohama Marinos (Japón) pero también a equipos locales como Almagro, Tiro Federal, Atlético Tucumán y Aldosivi.
También fue varias veces director técnico de Renato Cesarini, un club que fundó junto a su hermano Eduardo y los hermanos Ermindo y Daniel Onega (ex jugadores de River y la selección argentina) en 1975. “En Renato salen muchos técnicos porque tenemos muchas canchas de fútbol y muchos jugadores. Y fue el primer club que empezó a hacer clínicas de fútbol. El gran DT Cesarini decía que el equipo es como un bandoneón. Cuando se estira de un lado, del otro el resto tiene que acompañar, y cuando ataca o defiende, lo mismo”, dijo hace poco tiempo.
Eduardo Miguel, el hermano de Jorge y padre de Santiago (12/10/1950) era un volante de contención que se inició como futbolista en 1966 en Rosario Central, que sería protagonista de los primeros años ’70, cuando fue campeón de los Nacionales 1971 y 1973 y finalista ante Boca Juniors en el de 1970.
En 1975 fue convocado a la selección nacional. Cuando dejó Rosario Central en 1976 emigró al Junior de Barranquilla, donde fue campeón en 1977, volvió a la Argentina para jugar en Gimnasia, Argentinos Juniors (fue compañero de Diego Maradona), Atlético Tucumán, para finalizar su carrera en el Renato Cesarini en 1981. Luego, regresaría al Junior, club en el que es ídolo, para ser DT (cuando nacieron sus hijos Liz y David) y volvió a la Argentina para hacerse cargo de los equipos de Gimnasia, Estudiantes (dos veces), Rosario Central y Racing, y se sumó al trabajo de su hermano Jorge en Tenerife y Arabia Saudita. También dirigió a varios equipos mexicanos (Atlas, Celaya, Morelia y dos veces al Monterrey), a Argentinos Juniors, y a Vélez (justo después de Marcelo Bielsa).
Así es que Santiago Solari “nació en una cancha”, según suele decir su tío Jorge. “Y no es para menos, con un padre y un tío ex futbolistas y entrenadores y su madre (Alicia Susana Poggio) profesora de educación física”.
No es de extrañar entonces que Santiago Solari (7/10/76) comenzara su carrera de futbolista en las divisiones inferiores de Newell’s a los 10 años, pasó por el Renato Cesarini, a los 17 años se llegó a entrenar con la Primera de Estudiantes de La Plata (donde también recaló antes en la Pre-novena y Novena) en tiempos en los que su padre era el DT y allí coincidió con Edgardo Prátola, Martín Palermo, Rubén Capria, Juan Sebastián Verón y José Luis Calderón en la pretemporada de 1994, antes de incorporarse al Richard Stockton College de Nueva Jersey. Luego, su padre se iría a la selección de Arabia Saudita y el equipo acabaría descendiendo al Nacional B.
Debutó como profesional en River Plate en 1996 y en enero 1999, tras ganar tres títulos locales, y la Supercopa sudamericana, fue vendido al Atlético Madrid y en 2000, tras descender este equipo a Segunda, se sumó al Real Madrid hasta 2005 (ganó dos Ligas, dos Supercopas de España, una Champions, una Supercopa de Europa y una intercontinental.) Allí en el Real Madrid se encontró con el esposo de su prima, Fernando Redondo. Jugó también en el Inter (2005-08), San Lorenzo (2008/09), Atlante (2009/10), y Peñarol, con una campaña de 516 partidos y 62 goles. También tuvo un breve período en la selección argentina, con 11 partidos.
Al abandonar su carrera de futbolista se incorporó a las divisiones inferiores del Real Madrid desde 2013 y su carrera fue en franco ascenso. Campeón dos años seguidos con la categoría Cadetes B y A, y otros dos con el Juvenil B, fue convocado para dirigir al primer equipo el 29 de octubre pasado, para reemplazar a Julen Lopetegui, y en diciembre consiguió el Mundial de Clubes.
Si bien no tuvo el suceso de su hermano Santiago, la carrera de Esteban Andrés Solari (2/6/80), “El Tano”, ex delantero, es para destacar. Comenzó en las divisiones inferiores de Vélez y pasó por varios equipos argentinos (Estudiantes, Defensa y Justicia, Argentinos Juniors y Gimnasia de Jujuy), antes de iniciar su recorrido de trotamundos por clubes de Italia, Bélgica y España, aunque si hay dos países en los que es recordado especialmente son Chipre y México. Los que lo vieron jugar lo describen como un atacante no tan veloz, pero con muy buena ubicación.
En Chipre jugó en el Apoel Nicosia entre 2005 y 2007. En el primer año ganó la Copa local, y en el segundo, no sólo consiguió la Liga sino que fue el máximo goleador y el mejor jugador del torneo, y eso lo catapultó al Almería, de la Liga Española. Volvió al Apoel y no sólo fue campeón sino que se clasificó primero para la Europa League y luego, para la Champions League, donde llegó a cuartos de final y, aunque fue eliminado por el Real Madrid, marcó un gol de penal en el Santiago Bernabéu en la derrota por 5-2 en la temporada 2011/12. Ganó otra Copa local con el Apollon Limassol.
La otra gran experiencia, aunque corta, fue en Pumas de México, donde
coincidió con Ignacio Scocco y Rubens Sambueza. Terminó su carrera en equipos de China y Ecuador hasta totalizar 154 goles en 351 partidos. Profesor de educación física egresado del ISEF Enrique Romero Brest, al dejar el fútbol se incorporó para dirigir la sexta división de Rosario Central, pero hace pocos meses fue convocado por Fernando Batista para ser su ayudante en la Selección Argentina Sub-20.
En Chipre sufrió por segunda vez el ‘Corralito’ cuando se determinó una quita a los depósitos superiores a los 100.000 euros, y que podía llegar hasta el 60%. “No te liberan los depósitos. Se podía sacar hasta 300 euros por día y algunos que querían enviarles dinero a su familia, no podían hacerlo”, recordó. “Si la vida nos tiene que dar un golpe, que sea en el bolsillo y no en la salud”, acepta, resignado.
No se queda atrás, tampoco, David Eduardo (21/3/86), también nacido en Barranquilla, como Liz. Mediapunta o extremo, actualmente en el Othelos Athienou, de la segunda división de Chipre, tal como su hermano Esteban, es otro trotamundos del fútbol. Comenzó en 2002 en el Venezia italiano, siguió en el Chioggia, y entre 2005 y 2007 volvió a Independiente en condición de préstamo, pero no tuvo muchas posibilidades de jugar y al año siguiente recaló en Olimpo de Bahía Blanca, aunque ya en ese mismo año se fue al Espoli ecuatoriano, luego al Deportivo Táchira de Venezuela, y en la última década jugó entre Chipre (AEP Paphos y Alki Lamarca ) e Israel
(Ironi Kyryat Shmoná, donde ganó la Toto Cup y la Premier League local,
Ashdod, Macabbi Petah Tikva y Hapoel Afula FC). Volvió a la Argentina en 2016/17 para jugar en Central Córdoba de Rosario, y otra vez regresó a Chipre para ganar el torneo de segunda división con el Enosis Neon Paralimni. Su campaña, hasta el 31 de diciembre pasado, contaba con 61 goles en 202 partidos.
Por estos días, en el fútbol argentino, hay otro Solari reconocido, es Augusto Jorge Mateo (3/1/92), nieto del “Indio” Jorge, e hijo de “Jorgito”, también entrenador, y por lo tanto, primo-sobrino de Santiago, Esteban, David, Liz y Martín. Actualmente jugador de Racing, este mediocampista derecho se inició en River, ganando la Copa Libertadores Sub-20 de 2012 con un gol suyo en la final ante Defensor Sporting de Uruguay y al regresar del torneo, el DT de la Primera, Matías Almeyda, lo tuvo en cuenta para la Primera, aunque terminó de afianzarse con Ramón Díaz en el banco, y llegó a jugar algunos partidos en el último título local de River, el Torneo Final 2014. Llegó a pasar dos veces a préstamo a Estudiantes hasta que en 2017 comenzó a formar parte del plantel de Racing. Con 152 partidos en Primera, marcó 15 goles.
Otros dos primos-sobrinos de Santiago Solari son Fernando y Federico Redondo, hijos del notable volante de Argentinos Juniors y del Real Madrid, Fernando, casado con Natalia Solari, hija de Jorge. Fernando (23 años), es un fino volante que suele jugar de enganche, ya había debutado en el primer equipo del Club Atlético Tigre, pero tuvo una dura lesión en su rodilla derecha y por el momento, no está en actividad.
Federico (18 años), también es volante creativo, que dice ser un mix entre lo que era el juego de su padre y el de Fernando Gago, forma parte de las divisiones inferiores de Argentinos Juniors y ya fue citado por Pablo Aimar para la selección argentina sub-15.
Los Solari suelen tener un perfil bajo, aunque si es necesario, salen a defenderse, como ocurrió días pasados cuando desde México, Diego Maradona afirmó que ni Lionel Scaloni ni Santiago Solari “tienen espalda para dirigir a la Selección o al Real Madrid”, y el “Indio” Jorge salió a responderle: “Santiago tiene más horas de cancha que el propio Maradona. Lo de ser entrenador es algo especial porque algunos tienen mucha historia y no pueden dirigir. Santiago es un técnico en potencia que va a andar, pero hay que dejarlo trabajar.”
En las próximas horas, y desde distintos lugares del planeta, todos los Solari estarán atentos a los dos ‘Clásicos’ en los que su hijo se jugará buena parte de su futuro dirigiendo al Real Madrid ante el FC Barcelona.
