(CABA-PBA) Sacerdote y barrendero. Esa era la vocación y el trabajo de Mauricio Silva (legajo municipal 147.801). A la última dictadura militar le generaba tanto peligro un cura trabajador de 51 años, y en un sector tan precarizado y que luego fue privatizado, que decidió secuestrarlo en plena actividad del barrido, en el barrio de Villa General Mitre, puntualmente en Terrero y Magariños Cervantes, a las 8.30 hs, del 14 de junio de 1977. Nunca más se supo de él.
Desde entonces forma parte de la lista de desaparecidos registrados por la CONADEP, y se mantiene su causa abierta en el juzgado federal a cargo de Daniel Rafecas. Mientras que el proceso de beatificación parece tomar impulso por aquellos que lo vienen reivindicando hace una década, tras la publicación del primer y único libro que habla de su vida “Gritar el evangelio con la vida”.

Mauricio, como lo llamaban sus compañeros de trabajo y amigos, sabía su destino, pero aunque podía haber abandonado la Argentina, su país de adopción (él era uruguayo formado con los salesianos), prefirió el camino del martirio.
Este sacerdote barrendero, de la congregación de los Hermanitos del Evangelio, inspirados en el místico contemplativo francés Charles de Foucault, había realizado su tarea sacerdotal en la Patagonia junto al obispo Jaime de Nevares, formador de la Asamblea Permanente por los Derechos Humanos (APDH), y también en la Rioja con el obispo, Enrique Angelelli.
Para el año 1977, el intendente dictatorial, Osvaldo Cacciatore, quería privatizar el servicio de higiene urbana. Los trabajadores municipales del barrido y la recolección se resistieron, ellos habían sido la primera experiencia de estatización en el retorno a la democracia, bajo el gobierno de Héctor Campora, en el año 1973.
Esa actividad gremial, en plena dictadura militar, fue reprimida con la desaparición del cura barrendero junto a sus dos compañeros de trabajo en el Corralón de Floresta (actualmente plaza en av Gaona y Gualeguaychú) y amigos, Julio Goitia (desaparecido el 6 de mayo de 1977) y Néstor Sanmartino (desaparecido el 5 de mayo de 1977).
