Si la mayoría de los resultados son afirmativos, la votación acompañará al proyecto de ley que va a proponer la modificación de la normativa vigente. Posteriormente, si el proyecto de ley es aprobado en la Legislatura porteña, se implementarán acciones de comunicación en los espacios públicos para señalizar las zonas libres de humo.

Los parques y las plazas son espacios muy valorados por los vecinos porque son sitios donde pasan ratos al aire libre y en donde disfrutan del equipamiento lúdico y deportivo.
Actualmente la Ciudad cuenta con 376 patios de juegos infantiles –incluido el de la Plaza Almagro, donde hoy también se inauguraron las obras de puesta en valor–, los cuales no están separados físicamente de la plaza o el parque del que forman parte.
En consecuencia, los niños y niñas están expuestos a recibir las emisiones de humo que generan los cigarrillos y es por eso que surge esta iniciativa, que se suma a las actividades saludables, de disfrute y de uso responsable de los espacios públicos que viene impulsando el Gobierno porteño.

Además de las distintas alternativas para que los vecinos comuniquen su decisión en torno a este tema, se distribuirán folletos de votación para que también puedan participar de forma presencial en las sedes comunales y en 54 plazas y parques.
Se calcula que de las 40.000 muertes anuales por tabaquismo en el país, 6.000 corresponden a personas que nunca fumaron pero que estuvieron expuestas al humo de tabaco.
En lo que respecta a la Ciudad, el 50,7% de los no fumadores está expuesto al humo de tabaco ajeno, especialmente en los lugares de trabajo.
