Muchas calles de nuestra ciudad y en particular de nuestro barrio tienen nombres que la mayoría de los vecinos ignoran y muchas veces nos sorprendemos al conocer su origen.
Tal es el caso, por ejemplo, del pasaje Ortega, como es fácil de suponer no debe su nombre a ningún cantante, sino a don Rufino Ortega (1816-1861), militar argentino que llegó al grado de Coronel. Luchó en la Revolucón antirrosista en 1839 y luego con Lavalle en diversas batallas. Falleció en Pavón en 1861. Su hijo, de igual nombre (1847-1917) formó parte de varias expediciones en la Conquista del Desierto.
Este pasaje tiene dos cuadras y media de largo. Nace como cortada en el centro de la doble manzana delimitada por Honorio Pueyrredón, Méndez de Andes, Rojas y Aranguren.
Este nombre ya aparecía en el Plano de la Ciudad, confeccionado por el Departamento de Obras Públicas de la Municipalidad en el año 1904.
