Una buena opción para ver las estrellas o debatir sobre los misterios del universo es recurrir a la Asociación Argentina Amigos de la Astronomía, considerada la institución amateur más antigua del país. En ese recinto de paredes inmaculadas, a través de charlas y talleres, sus integrantes se dedican a promover el interés por esta ciencia y despertar la curiosidad por el cosmos. Allí, Mónica Williman (67) ofrece visitas guiadas desde hace unos 10 años todos los fines de semana.
“El público nos visita los viernes y sábados para completar un tour que dura unas dos horas. Si hay algún acontecimiento astronómico, como un eclipse o un cometa, viene mucho más público.Por lo general, hay entre 20 y 60 personas. En el telescopio, que es una pieza de museo, mostramos lo mejor que se ve esa noche y también, los orientamos un poco en sus funciones mecánicas. Desde algún cometa que surca el cielo, las fases de la Luna, alguna estrella binaria u otra puntual, como es el caso de Sirio, que es la estrella más brillante en la noche”, explica Williman.
El observatorio fue construido con todos los adelantos técnicos existentes de la época. Bajo la cúpula de observación se alza un telescopio Gautier que fue importado desde Francia en 1882. Posteriormente, la asociación ubicó en las terrazas aledañas al recinto principal varios telescopios más pequeños que permiten realizar tareas más precisas que el viejo Gautier.
“Hacemos también visitas para escuelas. A los chicos les encanta observar la Luna. La mejor fase para ver desde la Tierra es el cuarto creciente, ya que se puede observar bien la superficie, sus mares, los cráteres y algunas de sus elevaciones. En cambio, la luna llena, al tan luminosa, impide ver cualquiera de estos detalles”, refuerza Williman.
En total hay 8 personas que hacen las veces de guías. Mónica es una de las más antiguas ya que se desempeña desde hace más de 10 años, con licencia mediante que se tomó para poder criar a sus hijos.
“Siempre me gustó la astronomía y hacer la carrera es una de mis deudas pendientes. Y si bien siempre me mantuve al tanto sobre los últimos descubrimientos, donde más aprendí fue con las consultas que me hace la gente. Resulta que muchas veces, me quedaba insatisfecha con la respuesta que les había dado. Así que investigaba un poco y así iba reforzando cada vez más los conocimientos”, reconoce Williman.
Una de las preguntas infaltables es si el Apolo 11 realmente llegó a la Luna o fue todo un invento de la agencia espacial norteamericana. “Al público le encanta esa teoría conspirativa que dice que todo fue una gran simulación. Pero a mí no me quedan dudas que el hombre llegó a pisar la superficie lunar en 1969. Incluso recuerdo una conferencia de los cosmonautas soviéticos que en aquellos años, reconocían que esta vez, les había tocado perder en esta carrera y que los Estados Unidos, había llegado primero”, sostiene Williman.
