Además, ya está en funcionamiento el nuevo Taller Lacarra y se continúa con los trabajos de renovación de vías en todo su recorrido, siendo la línea que más inversión está recibiendo.
«La Línea E es en la que más estamos invirtiendo porque era la más atrasada: son 3714 millones de pesos en obras. Con las 3 nuevas estaciones y las obras de recambio de vías esperamos poder llegar a los 3.30 minutos de frecuencia para fin de año», dijo Franco Moccia, ministro de Desarrollo Urbano y Transporte de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

?El nuevo tramo de 2 kilómetros les permitirá a los usuarios de esta línea hacer combinación con la B y con la C y también podrán llegar directamente a la estación de Retiro para realizar la conexión con el tren. Según los cálculos oficiales, el viaje desde Retiro hasta Plaza de los Virreyes, en Flores sur, demorará 22 minutos en total.
Desde Subterráneos de Buenos Aires (Sbase) estiman que con la extensión sumarán unos 63 mil nuevos usuarios, lo cual representa un verdadero desafío si se tiene en cuenta que la línea E encabeza el ranking de reclamos por la baja frecuencia de los servicios (5 minutos en hora pico) y por la falta de vagones con aire acondicionado. Actualmente la usan alrededor de 90 mil usuarios todos los días. Para mantener la frecuencia planean incorporar formaciones FIAT que antes circulaban por la línea D y habían sido reemplazadas por coches nuevos con aire acondicionado.
Por otro lado, por primera vez desde su inauguración en 1944, se están renovando los 20 kilómetros de vías desde Bolívar hasta Plaza de los Virreyes. Esta obra se realiza a partir de las 23.30 cuando, al terminar el servicio, ingresan desde Plaza de los Virreyes 2 trenes de carga: uno transporta las vías nuevas y retira el material removido, y otro lleva las piedras nuevas que son colocadas a través de una tolva. De los trabajos también participa una retroexcavadora, que tras el levantamiento manual de rieles y durmientes remueve el balasto existente.

La renovación consiste en la instalación de nuevos caños de desagüe y una tela permeable y flexible de fibras sintéticas conocida como geotextil, sobre la que se distribuyen bolsas de balasto sobre las que se apoyan los tramos de vía. Estas son empalmadas con las existentes, se realiza la nivelación y se coloca piedra nueva. Luego se hace una segunda nivelación para alinear las vías. Una vez terminados los trabajos, se realizan 2 controles y a las 04.30 la traza queda liberada para dar comienzo al servicio.
Además, ya está en funcionamiento el Nuevo taller Lacarra. La estructura de 2.800 m2 se encuentra ubicada en la intersección de la colectora Dellepiane y Av. Perito Moreno. Cuenta con 3 vías operativas, con fosas de entre 90 y 110 metros, 1 vía para el ingreso y egreso de coches, maquinaria para el lavado de coches, un sistema de aire comprimido y dos puentes grúas, además de instalaciones eléctricas de media y baja tensión, sistema de ventilación y aislación térmica. Este nuevo equipamiento técnico permite agilizar las tareas de mantenimiento periódico y correctivo de los coches, mejorando la disponibilidad de la flota y la frecuencia del servicio. Un incremento en la cantidad de las cocheras-talleres permite mejorar la frecuencia y así podrán realizarse allí mismo las revisiones periódicas, sin necesidad de trasladar a los coches a otra línea.
